Cancer support group meets

Cancer support group meets

The cancer support group that meets on the last Tuesday of each month at Teshima’s restaurant on Honalo will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Those newly diagnosed with cancer and cancer survivors are welcome, as well as caregivers and family members.

The group meets to share cancer related issues and to lend support to one another. Women are encouraged to learn about breast cancer risks and early detection to help make informed decisions.

Scholarship available to Ka’u students

The Harry McKee Scholarship Foundation board of directors invites college bound high school seniors and current college students to apply for the 2017 McKee Foundation $1,000 scholarship.

To be eligible, students must be residents of Ka’u District and plan to attend any accredited college, university, technical institute or vocational school, anywhere in the U.S. Students must enroll full time in the fall of 2017. There is no specific major required and selection is based on the application.

Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble performs

Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble featuring Roland Maurer and Ursula Hesse will perform from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday at Kailua-Kona Public Library.

The two Swiss musicians will offer a colorful bouquet of salon musique, waltzes, polkas and dances.

Sponsored by Friends of the Libraries, Kona, the program is free.

Senior movie day planned

Elderly Recreation Services will show season one of “Keeping Up Appearances” at 10 a.m. Tuesday. It will be at West Hawaii Civic Center in the County Council Chambers, Bldg. A.

Freemasons meet

The Kona Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons meets Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Kona Masonic Center, 73-5577 Kauhola St., Suite 7, Kailua-Kona.

A Valentine’s Day dinner is planned at 6 p.m. for members and their ladies. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Dessert will be available after the meeting.

All members of the craft residing or visiting in the Kona area are invited to the dinner and meeting.
